Moscow Weather: When to Plan Your Trip

    Share

Actually there're two seasons in Moscow - winter and summer. And two short interseasons - muddy spring and wet fall.

Winter in Moscow is moderately cold. But there are frequent thaws up to half of the season. The period when temperature is below 0°C lasts about 4 months per year. It begins in the middle of November and ends approximately in March.

The average temperature is -6°C in this season. But there were winters when frosts reached the mark of -40°C. At this time Moscow is covered with snow and crystal ice - buildings, trees, street, river. It's very beautiful.

At the same time Moscow winter can be relatively warm - above 0°C. Then all the street are covered with slush and it sleets all the time. Such a weather gives a lot of problem to people and city administration.

Of course Russian winter is a kind of strong experience for tourists, but I think it's a good time to come to Moscow. You can appreciate all the advantages of pure russian vodka and snacks that cannot be appreciated when it's warm) But it'll be really difficult to walk the streets longer than half an hour.

Summer in Moscow is mostly not so hot and rather pleasant. This season lasts in Moscow approximately 5 months - from May to September. The day temperature is about 17°C. The night one is about 13°C.

A part of Moscow quays is green. Especially near Moscow State University. So the young people like to take sunbaths right on the grass.

At the end of August and in September there is an Indian Summer in Moscow. It's usually the most beautiful time. And my favorite.

I think that September is the best season to travel to Moscow. The sky is high and blue, the air is fresh, trees begin to be covered in gold. A kind of Pushkin's Gold Autumn.
