Bolshoi theatre has prepared the unprecedented surprise for European public. Now ballet fanciers will be able to see ballets staged by Bolshoi on European cinema screens (mainly in France) in real time. The project will start from March 31 in the frames of Year of France in Russia and Russia in France.

So 150 cinemas will host the real-time shows of the Flames of Paris ballet on the last day of March. Among the first cities to watch ballet translations are Paris, Avignon, Le Havre, Lyon, Nancy, Nice, Toulon, and Toulouse, as well as Switzerland's Bern and Lausanne.
Then the Bolshoi theatre will show more ballets in some 200 French cinemas in the next season starting this fall. The project will be opened with Swan Lake by Pyotr Tchaikovsky on September 26 and the other popular Tchaikovsky’s ballet Nutcracker will follow on December 19.
The Flames of Paris ballet by Russian composer Boris Asafyev and choreographer Vasily Vainonen was first staged in Moscow in 1932. The ballet is based on the events of the French Revolution. It includes the scenes of storming of the Tuileries Palace by the Marseillais and their victorious march on Paris. The modern version of the ballet by choreographer Alexei Ratmansky was staged in the Bolshoi Theatre in 2008.
